Preschool Penguins Program

Full-day program for 3- and 4-year olds

Welcome!

The Collingswood Public Schools offers a full day Preschool programs for children who have reached age 3 or 4 by October 1 of the year they are enrolling in preschool.

Who is Eligible?
Students who turn three (3) or four (4) years old by October 1 of the year they wish to enroll in the program.

What are the hours?
The full day program runs from 8:30 am - 2:45 pm, 5 days per week when school is in session. Because our Preschool students will likely not be placed in the same school location as older siblings, there is a flexible "drop-off window" between 8:15am and 8:45am and a flexible "pickup window" between 2:45pm and 3:00pm. School Lunch will be served and recess time provided. The program follows the Collingswood Public Schools district calendar. Note: When school has a single session day the program will run from 8:30am - 12:30pm with the same 15-minute drop off and pickup window provided.

Where will the program be held?
The preschool program continues to expand. The program is planned for several locations throughout the school district. Current plans call for the program to be held at the Thomas Sharp Elementary School (4 classrooms), the Oaklyn Public School (3 classrooms), the Zane North Elementary School (1 classroom), and the new Early Childhood Center at the First United Methodist Church on Stokes Avenue in Collingswood (4 classrooms). The Collingswood Preschool Program will also partner with Head Start of Camden County to serve as many of our youngest learners as possible.

What Curriculum is followed?
The Collingswood Public Schools Preschool program uses the Creative Curriculum, 6th Ed., a curriculum approved by the State of New Jersey. For more information, visit the web site: http://www.creativecurriculum.net/.

What is the cost of the program?
Collingswood residents may take advantage of the program free of charge.

Is before or after-school (wrap-around) care available? Before and after-school programs are offered by Just Kids, administered by Archway Programs. There is an additional fee for the Just Kids program. Due to Preschool regulations, wrap-around care is limited to 3.5 hours per day. Please discuss your specific needs with Just Kids. Information on Just Kids can be found by clicking this link.

How do I enroll my child in Preschool?
Preschool seats are filled via a lottery. Children enrolled as 3-year old preschoolers are automatically admitted as 4-year olds. The remaining seats are available to first-time preschoolers (either age 3 or 4). The Preschool Lottery Online Application goes live by February 1 each year. There is a one-month window to apply for the lottery.

The lottery will be conducted and families notified as soon as the New Jersey Department of Education confirms funding for the next school year. All applicants will be notified of their status, including position on wait list, if necessary. Any seats remaining after the lottery closes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis until all seats are filled.

Who do I call if I have questions?

Preschool Lottery Process

The Preschool Lottery begins on February 1 of the year in which you wish to enroll your child. The lottery will close on the last school day in February. Families will be notified of lottery selection as soon as available seat counts are confirmed by the New Jersey Department of Education.

If your child is not selected in the lottery, a waiting list will be developed. If seats remain open after the lottery closes, students will be scheduled on a first-come, first served basis until all Preschool seats are filled.
