Community Invited to Listening Session on Biased-Based Policing
Monday, June 30 at 7 PM | Collingswood Grand Ballroom

The Borough of Collingswood invites all residents to attend an important Community Listening Session focused on biased-based policing and how immigration policy is addressed at the local level.

This event, taking place on Monday, June 30 at 7 PM in the Collingswood Grand Ballroom, will be led by Chief Kevin Carey of the Collingswood Police Department. Chief Carey will present an overview of the department’s current policies related to biased-based policing and will outline how these practices align with the New Jersey Immigrant Trust Directive. This directive provides guidance to law enforcement across the state on how to uphold public safety while ensuring that immigrant communities can interact with police without fear.

“This conversation is part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, equity, and building trust between our police department and the community we serve,” said Chief Carey. “We want all residents to feel safe and respected, and this session is an opportunity to reinforce those values.”

The session will be moderated by Deputy Mayor Amy Henderson Riley. Representatives from the Collingswood-Oaklyn School District will also attend to help ensure that the concerns of students and families are heard and represented. Lindsay Zogheb of Inner Purpose, LLC will be present as a trauma-informed facilitator to support open dialogue and community well-being during the event.

Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions during a moderated Q&A portion. To ensure a safe and supportive environment, community volunteers will be monitoring entry points, and the session will also be live-streamed for those who prefer to attend virtually.

The Borough encourages all residents to attend, listen, and learn about how Collingswood’s law enforcement policies are designed to serve and protect everyone—regardless of background or immigration status.
