A Partnership Between the Borough of Collingswood and Collingswood Public Schools

June 18, 2026

The Borough of Collingswood and the Collingswood Public School District are proud to join together in announcing a historic 10-year shared service agreement. This exciting partnership represents a milestone for our borough, bringing our community closer together by opening up new opportunities for recreation, youth enrichment, and community gathering. By working hand-in-hand, we are maximizing the potential of our shared assets to create a more vibrant, healthy, and connected Collingswood for every resident.

Both the Borough and the School District share a desire to create inclusive, modern, and accessible spaces where neighbors can connect, children can play, and families can thrive. This collaboration highlights what can be achieved when we work together in shared service to our community’s well-being.

The immediate and long-term benefits of this partnership focus on three main pillars of community impact:

Investment in Our Borough’s Future

A major focus of this partnership is a construction project to build brand-new athletic fields on School District property, funded entirely by the Borough with up to $10.5 million in previously bonded funds. This project represents a legacy investment in community infrastructure. The updated facilities will serve as a modern hub for youth sports and local recreation, ensuring our recreational spaces are ready to welcome generations of athletes and families to come.

Community-Wide Access to Buildings, Fields, Walking Track, and Playgrounds

In return for the Borough's capital investments, the Borough may use a wide range of school facilities—including athletic fields, playgrounds, auditoriums, classrooms, and parking—during non-school hours. Notably, starting Tuesday, June 23rd, school playgrounds and track facilities will be open to the public from the conclusion of the school day and after-school activities until dusk, and on weekends, school holidays, and days when school is not in session from 7:00 a.m. until dusk. Throughout the summer months, these spaces will remain open to residents, ensuring every family has a safe and walkable place to enjoy the outdoors.

Expanding Opportunities for Youth Programs and Community Events

This collaborative framework extends beyond athletics to support a variety of local initiatives. By providing access to school classrooms, auditoriums, and community spaces, the agreement establishes a stable environment for key programs. This shared space commitment secures dedicated practice and storage space for the Borough's award-winning Odyssey of the Mind recreation teams, increases venue availability for local theatre and performing arts, and guarantees priority facility access for Collingswood’s annual 4th of July celebration. Through these shared resources, the partnership directly supports youth enrichment and preserves the borough's long-standing community traditions.

Demonstrating their shared commitment to this vision, the Collingswood Commissioners approved this agreement at their working meeting on Wednesday, June 17, and the Collingswood Board of Education is expected to vote on final approval at its upcoming meeting on Monday, June 22.

This joint initiative marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to serve the residents of Collingswood - together. By aligning our resources, this partnership builds a strong foundation for high-quality recreation and education. The Borough and the School District are proud to move forward together, united in our mission to enhance the community spirit and neighborhood warmth that make Collingswood such a special place to live, learn, and grow.
