Collingswood Public Schools Launches Information Hub Ahead of November 3 Operational Referendum

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ — Following its initial announcement regarding the upcoming ballot question, Collingswood Public Schools has officially launched a dedicated voter information hub on its district website. The site provides community members with clear, accessible details regarding the district's $4.56 million operational referendum, which voters will consider during the November 3, 2026 General Election. Unlike capital project referendums that are restricted solely to physical construction, building repairs, or facility upgrades, an operational referendum directly funds staff, classroom resources, and day-to-day programs that keep local schools running. If approved by voters, the operational referendum funds will be integrated into the operating budget to maintain academic quality and support daily school operations.

The information hub outlines how the proposed funds will directly impact local classrooms by prioritizing four key operational areas. A primary focus is maintaining school-based staff to attract and retain dedicated teachers, instructional assistants, and academic support team members. Additionally, the funding will sustain student support services by protecting critical mental health resources, school counselors, special education programming and academic interventions. The revenue also ensures essential business operations, including human resources, payroll, employee benefits, purchasing, facilities maintenance, and technology infrastructure, continue running smoothly, while preserving robust academic offerings, electives, athletics, and co-curricular activities without budget reductions.

This operational proposal comes as Collingswood Public Schools continues to navigate escalating operational expenses driven by inflation, rising health insurance and utility rates, and reduced state and federal funding streams. Although the district has implemented prudent financial adjustments to stretch every available dollar, additional operational revenue is now required to maintain current service levels. If approved by voters, the financial adjustment will take effect in the 2027 tax year, resulting in an estimated annual tax impact of $1,324, or approximately $110.33 per month, for a home assessed at the borough average of $448,000. District leaders emphasize that tax impacts are calculated using official municipal assessed values rather than real estate market values, and eligible seniors may be shielded from tax increases through New Jersey's Senior Freeze Program.

In addition to financial breakdowns, the newly launched information hub serves as a one-stop resource to help residents navigate the upcoming voting process. To participate in the November 3 election, voters must register by October 13, 2026, which can be completed online through the New Jersey Voter Registration portal or via mail with the Camden County Clerk. The hub also outlines the three pathways for casting a ballot: applying for a Vote-by-Mail ballot, participating in in-person early voting from October 24 through November 1, or voting at assigned local polling locations on Election Day between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Community members are encouraged to visit www.collsk12.org for more information.
